Jemal’s pull list gender imbalance check-in time: 23 books with no women, 15 with at least one. 146 total men to 23 total women! Sad!
A big week and more disappointing numbers. A little up from last week, but worsened by my choice to catch up on some all-male books. Boo!
There’s a new Charlie’s Angel book on the stands and in our more enlightened era they have a woman on board…as the colorist? Okay…?
Lumberjanes stays keeping the non-men employed, but the 50th-issue Ms. Marvel celebration has 2 women and 8 men? Looks great, but…
Astro City gets in on a possible technicality: letters & design by “John with Sarah & Jimmy of Comicraft.” Who did what now?
Kill or Be Killed comes to a close, and Brubaker & Phillips have an OGN in the hopper, but It looks like no Elizabeth Breitweiser? ????
Bendis is on a highly promoted run with Man of Steel and can’t seem to find a lady to work with? Come on, Brian! Ladies love Supes!
Mike Mignola runs an empire at Dark Horse and hardly ever hires women for any of his books? Finds room for abuser Scott Allie though.
Michelle Madden was on colors for his Witchfinder last week, a rare non-Dave Stewart colorist appearance! I love Dave, but a nice change.
Anyway, I’m still not sure what to do about this. I hate seeing my faves like Mark Waid or Jeff Lemire on new books with no women. If you have tips for great books with non-male teams, I’d love to hear them! Also: still looking for a hashtag!
Caveats: my spotty research (sorry); gender binary sucks; no covers/no backups; only writers, pencillers, inkers, colorists, letterers.
What I find most disappointing is the number of books about women written by all-male teams. Women should be telling more of those stories.
